Puffin holding a mouthful of sand eels and a herring, caught to feed its young. During the breeding season, puffins constandly fly in and out of the water with mouthfuls of fish to feed their young. The largest recorded number of fish in a puffin's beak at once was a staggering 62. In order to safely reach their burrows, they often have to dodge Herring Gulls attempting to snatch their fish. Puffins excavate burrows on clifftops or rocky crevices, with both parents sharing parental responsibility.
