Nesting Razorbills on a coastal cliff, Skomer Island
Razorbills nesting on a coastal cliff. Razorbills choose inaccessible sites for their nests, carefully chosen to ensure protection from predators. They quite often nest on open ledges very near to the open sea. Razorbill nests may look precarious, but the parents diligently take turns to ensure the safety of their egg, both parents guard and taking turns feeding when the chick hatches. Razorbills mate for life, spending the majority of their time at sea and returning to the cliffs for breeding.
