Praying Mantis is often a common name used for many insects of the Mantis family, acquired due to their typical poster of holding the fore-limbs in a posture similar to that of praying. Occasionally however, they are referred to as preying Mantis, which is an apt reflection of their predatory hunting habits. Larger species of praying (preying) mantis are capable of eating small birds, reptiles and mammals.
