The mottled colouring and patterns of a Variegated Lizardfish enable them to blend into the coral background rendering them invisible to small passing fishes. Distribution: Indo-Pacific: Red Sea and East Africa to the Hawaiian, Line, Marquesan, and Ducie islands, north to the Ryukyu Islands, south to the Lord Howe, Kermadec and Rapa islands.
